02 What is Invisalign

Straight teeth without the metal.

Invisalign is a series of clear, custom-fit aligners that gradually move your teeth into their ideal position. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before progressing to the next, and the entire system is virtually invisible. Most people will not notice you are wearing them, even up close.

The treatment starts with a 3D digital scan that creates a precise model of your teeth in about ten minutes. From there, our doctors design your full treatment plan and show you a preview of your future smile before you ever start wearing aligners. Most adult and teen cases take between 6 and 18 months from start to finish.

At Downey Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, both of our doctors are Invisalign-trained and treat patients across the full range of orthodontic needs, including mild crowding, gaps, crossbite, overbite, and complex multi-arch cases. We see Invisalign patients from Downey, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Bellflower, and the surrounding Gateway Cities.

What sets Invisalign apart from traditional braces is not just appearance. The aligners are removable, which means you eat, drink, and brush normally. There are no food restrictions, no wires that catch your cheek, and no special cleaning routines. Just a clear path to a confident smile, designed around your real life.

04 Is it right for you

Invisalign works for most adults and teens.

Most patients with mild to moderate alignment issues are excellent candidates. The best way to know for sure is a free consultation with one of our doctors.

  • Mild to moderate crowding where teeth overlap or sit at angles
  • Spacing or gaps between teeth, including post-orthodontic shifting
  • Crossbite, overbite, or underbite in most non-surgical cases
  • Adults seeking a discreet alternative to traditional metal braces
  • Teens responsible enough to wear aligners 22 hours daily as directed
  • Patients who completed orthodontic treatment as a teen and have seen teeth shift over time
  • Patients with overall good oral health, no untreated decay, and stable gum tissue

Not every smile is an Invisalign case, and we will tell you honestly. Our doctors offer free consultations to evaluate your candidacy, take a 3D scan if appropriate, and walk you through every option you have. That includes clear aligners, traditional braces when those work better, or a specialist referral when complex orthodontic care is needed. The consultation takes about 30 minutes and there is no pressure to commit. You leave with a clear understanding of what is possible for your smile and what each path would involve.

05 The Process

Your Invisalign journey, step by step.

From consultation to confident smile, here is what to expect.

  1. Free Consultation

Your first visit takes about 30 minutes. One of our doctors examines your teeth, discusses your smile goals, and determines whether Invisalign is the right fit. If you are a candidate and want to move forward, we capture a 3D digital scan the same day.

  2. 3D Digital Scan

No messy putty impressions. We use the iTero scanner to create a precise digital model of your teeth in about ten minutes. The scan is also used to show you a preview of your projected smile before you commit to treatment.

  3. Custom Treatment Plan

Our doctors design your full treatment plan using the 3D scan, mapping each aligner step from start to finish. You see a digital preview of your future smile and get a specific timeline for your case before any aligners are made.

  4. Wear Your Aligners

Switch to a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks at home. Wear them 22 hours per day, removing only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. Most patients adjust within the first few days.

  5. Reveal Your Smile

After your final aligners, we provide a custom retainer to keep your new smile in place. Wearing your retainer as directed is essential. Without it, teeth can gradually shift back over months and years. Treatment complete, retainer in hand, smile ready.

06 Common questions

Questions about Invisalign?

We hear these often. If you have a question that is not covered here, give us a call or schedule your free consultation.

Ask a Question
  • Most adult cases take between 6 and 18 months, though simpler cases involving minor crowding or spacing can be completed in as little as 3 to 4 months. Complex cases involving bite correction or significant rotation may run closer to 24 months. Your specific timeline depends on the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear your aligners. We give you a precise estimate at your free consultation based on your 3D scan.

  • Invisalign is generally more comfortable than traditional braces. You may feel slight pressure or tenderness for the first day or two when you switch to a new aligner. This is normal and means the aligners are doing their job by gently moving your teeth. The discomfort typically fades within 48 hours. Most patients describe the sensation as awareness rather than pain, and over-the-counter pain relievers are rarely needed.

  • Aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day for treatment to work as planned. You can remove them to eat, drink anything other than water, brush your teeth, and floss. The more consistent you are with wear time, the better your results and the closer you stay to your projected timeline. Patients who consistently wear their aligners less than 20 hours daily often need additional aligners or extended treatment time.

  • Yes. That is one of the biggest advantages over traditional braces. You remove your aligners to eat, so there are no food restrictions. You can have popcorn, apples, corn on the cob, sticky candies, all the things traditional braces patients cannot. The only rule: brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in. Eating or drinking anything other than water with your aligners in can stain them or trap food against your teeth.

  • Cost depends on the complexity of your case, the number of aligner sets needed, and the length of treatment. We offer flexible financing through CareCredit, accept most insurance plans that include orthodontic benefits, and walk you through a clear cost breakdown at your free consultation. Many patients are surprised to learn their dental insurance covers a meaningful portion of Invisalign treatment the same way it would cover braces. We verify your benefits before treatment begins so you know exactly what your out-of-pocket cost will be.

  • Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign the same way they cover traditional braces, typically a percentage up to a lifetime orthodontic maximum, often between $1,000 and $3,000 depending on your plan. Our team verifies your specific benefits before treatment begins so you have a clear understanding of what your insurance covers and what your out-of-pocket investment will be. We accept most PPO plans including Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, and Anthem.

  • Yes. Invisalign Teen is designed specifically for younger patients ages 12 to 19 and includes features like compliance indicators, small blue dots on the aligners that fade as wear time accumulates, making it easier for parents and our team to track consistent wear. Both of our doctors evaluate teens individually to determine the right fit. Treatment timelines for teens are similar to adults, though we account for any remaining jaw growth in our planning.

  • After your final aligners, we provide a custom retainer that you wear to maintain your new smile. Most patients wear their retainer full time for the first few months, then transition to nightly wear indefinitely. Wearing your retainer as directed is essential. Without it, teeth can gradually shift back to their original positions over months and years, and any drift typically cannot be corrected without starting orthodontic treatment again. We provide clear retainer guidance and replacement recommendations as needed.

07 Why us

Invisalign care, full-service practice.

We are not an Invisalign mill. We are a full-service general and cosmetic practice that happens to do exceptional clear aligner work, and that distinction matters.

  • Trained on every case

Both Dr. Hadis Reyhani and Dr. Kiro Farag are Invisalign provider-trained and continue annual training to stay current with the latest clear aligner techniques and technology.

  • Comprehensive care, not just orthodontics

Because we are a full-service general and cosmetic practice, we evaluate your overall oral health before designing Invisalign treatment. Gum disease, untreated decay, or bite issues are caught and addressed first. Invisalign should not be the first thing we fix if it is not the right place to start.

  • Bilingual treatment planning

Every team member at our practice provides care in both English and Spanish. Treatment plans, financing conversations, and post-treatment guidance are all available in your preferred language.

  • Care that fits your real life

Extended weekday hours, flexible scheduling for working adults, and financing options through CareCredit and major insurance partners. Treatment built around your schedule, not ours.
