01 Dental Implants

Dental implants in Downey.

Permanent, natural-looking replacements for missing teeth, designed to last a lifetime.

02 What is a dental implant

A permanent solution for missing teeth.

A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone, where it serves as the root of a replacement tooth. Once the implant integrates with your bone over the course of a few months, a custom crown is attached on top, creating a permanent tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.

Implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. Unlike dentures, they do not slip or require adhesives. Unlike traditional bridges, they do not require grinding down healthy adjacent teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.

At Downey Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, every implant case is led by Dr. Ben Reyhani, the practice's implant specialist. With 19 years of restorative experience and advanced certification in implant dentistry, Dr. Ben handles single-tooth implants, full-arch restorations including All-on-4, and implant-supported dentures. Every case begins with a comprehensive evaluation including 3D imaging to plan precise placement.

We see implant patients from across Downey, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Bellflower, and the surrounding Gateway Cities. Most cases are completed in three to six months from initial placement to final crown, with treatment plans designed around your timeline and your budget.

03 Implant Options

One missing tooth or many, we have the right solution.

We offer the full range of implant treatments, from single-tooth replacements to full-arch restorations.

  • Single Tooth Implant

Replace a single missing tooth with a standalone implant and crown. Adjacent teeth remain untouched, and the result looks and functions like the tooth you lost. Most single implants are completed in 3 to 4 months total.

  • Multiple Implants & Bridges

Replace multiple missing teeth with a series of implants or an implant-supported bridge. We can replace two, three, or more teeth in a single arch with strategic implant placement that maximizes function and minimizes cost.

  • All-on-4 Full-Arch

Replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth with just four strategically placed implants supporting a fixed bridge. Patients walk in with failing or missing teeth and leave with a permanent, beautiful smile in as little as one day.

04 Is it right for you

Most adults are candidates for implants.

Dental implants work for most patients, even those who have been told elsewhere that they are not candidates. Modern implant techniques and bone grafting have made implants possible for far more patients than even five years ago.

  • Adults with one or more missing teeth or failing teeth
  • Patients currently wearing partial or full dentures who want a permanent solution
  • Patients with adequate bone density, or willingness to have bone grafting if needed
  • Non-smokers, or patients willing to stop smoking during healing
  • Patients with overall good oral health and stable gum tissue
  • Patients who have completed any necessary periodontal or orthodontic treatment
  • Patients of any age, since implants work just as well at 70 as at 30

Even if you have been told you do not have enough bone for implants, modern bone grafting techniques can rebuild the foundation needed for successful placement. We offer comprehensive evaluations and will tell you honestly whether implants are the right fit, what preparation might be needed, and what your alternatives are if implants are not the best path.

05 The Process

Your implant journey, step by step.

Most implant cases follow this five-stage timeline from consultation to final smile.

  1. Consultation & 3D Imaging

Free initial consultation with Dr. Ben Reyhani. We discuss your goals, evaluate your bone density and oral health, and capture detailed 3D imaging to plan your implant placement with precision. You leave with a clear understanding of your options.

  2. Treatment Planning

Using your 3D scans, we map exactly where each implant will be placed, what prosthetic will go on top, and what your timeline and investment will be. You see a digital preview of your final result before any work begins.

  3. Implant Placement

The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone during a comfortable in-office procedure. Most patients return to normal activities the next day. We use sedation options for patients who prefer to be relaxed during placement.

  4. Healing & Integration

Over 3 to 6 months, the implant fuses with your bone, a process called osseointegration that creates a foundation as strong as a natural tooth root. During this time, you wear a temporary crown or restoration if needed.

  5. Final Crown Placement

Once the implant is fully integrated, we attach the permanent crown, bridge, or denture. The final result looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth, and is designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

06 Common questions

Questions about dental implants?

Implants are a significant investment in your long-term health. We hear these questions often and answer every one honestly.

Ask a Question
  • With proper care, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. The crown attached to the implant typically lasts 15 to 25 years before it may need replacement, but the implant itself is permanent. Implants have the highest long-term success rate of any tooth replacement option, with documented success rates above 95 percent at 10 years and beyond.

  • The implant placement itself is performed under local anesthesia, so you do not feel pain during the procedure. Most patients describe post-surgical discomfort as similar to a tooth extraction, manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and resolved within 3 to 5 days. We offer sedation options for patients who prefer to be deeply relaxed during placement.

  • Most single-tooth implant cases take 3 to 6 months from initial placement to final crown. The longest part is the healing period, when the implant integrates with your bone. Some patients qualify for same-day implants where a temporary crown is placed immediately after surgery, though the final permanent crown still requires healing time before placement.

  • Implant cost varies based on whether you need bone grafting, the type of crown or restoration on top, and how many implants you need. We offer flexible financing through CareCredit and accept most dental insurance plans that cover implants. Many patients are surprised that their insurance covers a meaningful portion. We provide a clear written cost breakdown before any work begins.

  • Many dental insurance plans cover at least part of implant treatment, typically the crown portion and sometimes the implant itself. Coverage varies significantly by plan. We verify your specific benefits before treatment begins so you have a clear understanding of what your insurance covers and what your out-of-pocket cost will be. We accept most PPO plans including Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, and Anthem.

  • All-on-4 is a technique where a full arch of teeth (upper or lower) is supported by just four strategically placed implants. It is ideal for patients missing most or all of their teeth in an arch, or wearing dentures and ready for a permanent solution. The procedure is often completed in a single day, with patients leaving with a fixed temporary set of teeth that day, and a final permanent set after healing.

  • Often yes. When teeth are missing for extended periods, the jawbone in that area can shrink, a process called bone resorption. If significant bone loss has occurred, we may recommend bone grafting to rebuild the foundation before implant placement. Our 3D imaging shows exactly how much bone you have and what would be needed for successful placement.

  • A traditional bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the two adjacent teeth, which must be ground down to receive crowns. An implant replaces the missing tooth without affecting any other teeth. Bridges typically last 10 to 15 years before needing replacement; implants are designed to last a lifetime. Bridges are typically less expensive upfront, but implants often cost less over the long term because they do not require periodic replacement.
