01Dentures

Dentures in Downey.

Modern partial and complete dentures for tooth replacement, plus implant-supported options for greater stability.

02What Are Dentures

Removable tooth replacement, modernized.

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. They restore the appearance and function of your smile, allowing normal chewing, speaking, and confidence, particularly for patients missing multiple teeth or all teeth in an arch. Modern dentures are significantly improved from the bulky, ill-fitting dentures of decades past.

We offer two main categories of dentures: complete dentures replace all teeth in an upper or lower arch, and partial dentures replace several missing teeth while working alongside your remaining natural teeth. Both can be made entirely traditional (resting on the gums) or implant-supported (attached to dental implants for greater stability).

Dentures are typically completed in 4 to 6 weeks across multiple visits, including impressions, try-in fittings, and final placement. We use modern materials that look natural, fit comfortably, and resist staining better than older denture materials. Both Dr. Hadis Reyhani and Dr. Kiro Farag handle denture cases.

Dentures are not always the best choice. For patients seeking the most stable, natural-feeling solution, dental implants and All-on-4 typically provide better long-term outcomes. We discuss all options honestly, sometimes dentures are right, sometimes implants are, sometimes a hybrid implant-supported denture provides the best of both.

03Denture Types

Different dentures for different needs.

We offer multiple denture types to match your specific tooth replacement needs and budget.

  • Complete Dentures

Replaces all teeth in the upper or lower arch (or both). Rests on the gums and stays in place through suction (upper) or resting on the lower jaw (lower). Removed nightly for cleaning. Most affordable option for patients with no remaining teeth.

  • Partial Dentures

Replaces multiple missing teeth while working with your remaining natural teeth. Attaches to existing teeth with clasps or precision attachments. Used when extracting all remaining teeth would be unnecessary.

  • Implant-Supported Dentures (Snap-In)

A removable denture that snaps onto 2 to 4 dental implants for added stability. Significantly more secure than traditional dentures, no slipping during eating or talking, but still removable for cleaning.

  • Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures (All-on-4)

A permanent, non-removable bridge of teeth supported by 4 to 6 implants. Functions like natural teeth and never comes out. The most stable and natural-feeling option but at higher cost. See All-on-4 page for full details.

05Is a Denture Right for You

When dentures are the right choice.

Dentures work well in specific situations. Here is when they typically make sense.

  • Patient has lost most or all teeth in an arch
  • Adequate budget for tooth replacement but implants are not financially feasible
  • Medical conditions or insufficient bone making implant surgery inadvisable
  • Comfortable with the maintenance requirements (nightly removal, cleaning, adhesives)
  • Looking for the fastest path to functional teeth (4 to 6 weeks vs. 3 to 6 months for implants)
  • Currently wearing older dentures that need replacement
  • Patient wants to retain remaining natural teeth (partial dentures)

When implants might be better

  • Patient wants near-natural chewing function and stability
  • Long-term cost over 20+ years matters more than upfront investment
  • Bone preservation is a priority (especially important for younger patients)
  • Lifestyle considerations (active, social, professional) make removable dentures a poor fit

We discuss all options at your consultation, traditional dentures, implant-supported snap-in dentures, fixed All-on-4, and partial dentures. The right choice depends on your specific situation, budget, and goals.

06The Process

Your denture treatment, step by step.

Most denture cases are completed in 4 to 6 weeks across 3 to 5 visits.

  1. 01

    Consultation & Planning

Free consultation to evaluate your specific tooth replacement needs. We discuss denture types, costs, and timeline. If extractions are needed before denture placement, we plan that as part of the timeline.

  2. 02

    Initial Impressions

Detailed impressions of your gums, remaining teeth (for partials), and bite. Multiple impressions and bite registrations capture the unique anatomy needed to fabricate well-fitting dentures.

  3. 03

    Try-In Fitting

A wax model of the denture is fitted in your mouth so you can preview how the final denture will look and feel. We make adjustments at this stage, color, tooth position, lip support, before final fabrication.

  4. 04

    Final Fabrication

The denture is fabricated at a dental laboratory using the approved try-in model. This typically takes 1 to 2 weeks.

  5. 05

    Final Placement & Adjustments

The completed denture is fitted and adjusted for comfort and function. Some adjustments over the first few weeks are normal as you adapt to wearing the denture and as gums settle. We schedule follow-up visits as needed.

07Adapting

What to expect in your first months.

Adapting to dentures takes time. Here is what is typical and when to call us if something feels off.

  • First 2 Weeks

Initial discomfort, sore spots, and some pronunciation challenges are common. Eating soft foods and gradually introducing harder textures helps. Use denture adhesive if needed for security. Most patients see significant improvement in comfort by day 14.

  • First 1-3 Months

Most patients adapt to normal eating and clear speech within 1 to 3 months. Sore spots typically resolve as your gums adjust. Multiple adjustment visits during this period are normal, we want your denture to fit perfectly, not just acceptably.

  • Long-Term Care

Annual checkups to ensure proper fit and check for changes in your gums and any remaining teeth. Dentures typically need relining every 3 to 5 years and full replacement every 5 to 10 years as your jaw shape continues to change. Patients with implant-supported dentures need similar long-term monitoring.

08Common Questions

Questions about dentures?

Dentures involve significant adjustment and lifestyle change. Honest answers to the most-asked questions.

Ask a Question
  • Most traditional dentures need replacement every 5 to 10 years as your jaw shape changes (the bone underneath dentures gradually shrinks over time). Annual relines or adjustments help maintain fit between full replacements. Implant-supported dentures last longer because the implants prevent the bone loss that causes traditional dentures to need replacement.
